Gentlemen, Colleagues, Mechwarriors! Lend me your ears...er, eyes. Recently, you may have noticed your spyware or antivirus software alerting you to a threat coming from this site. If not, maybe it's time to upgrade your antivirus software. ;) At any rate, the software running this site is old and probably has a few holes that Bots have started to exploit. As a preventative measure, I have shutdown the automatic registration process for the time being.

On a related note, I have not been impressed with our hosting company. I have plans to move us to a better (and, for the love of pete, faster) place and upgrade to a better website engine. I will be the first to admit that I don't know much about website publishing, forum administration, php, html...basically everything that one needs to administrate a website. What I *do* have is excellent troubleshooting skills and an inate ability to "fake it". I also have a lot of experience with traditional programming languages, but very little with all the web scripting options available to us. I definitely have the ability to learn how to do all of the above when I have the time and inclination. For those of you who didn't hear, I will be moving this summer and getting married in December. =) As you could imagine, my free time will be limited at best.

What does this all mean? I will tell you, my brothers. I will plan on moving this place forward, but the move might be very slow. How slow? Think 2/3...maybe even 1/2. And definitely no jumpjets involved ('for god's sake, take off that silly hat!" -chaplain ). However, if there are responsible and dependable parties out there who know more about this stuff than I do (it wouldn't take much ;) ) and would like to either:

a) take over the admin job
or
b) manage and implement the website design and upgrade project

please feel free to contact me. Obviously, any change in the guard will have to have the blessings of the syndicate godfathers. No exceptions. If everyone is content with the status quo, then I won't worry about it and continue on my course.

Well, that's about it. As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Namaste. =)

- Lugnut

Classic Battletech Weekend of Gaming in East Lansing, Michigan!!
Posted by: IronSphinx on Saturday, March 08, 2008 - 01:26 PM
General News Topic Hi Folks,

Well, we're hard at work putting together the first annual Classic Battletech Weekend of Gaming! And here's the details:

It's three days of Classic Battletech! If you had ever been to Foundation Con in the past, that's what it'll be like.

The scenarios have been posted on playbattletech.org under the "Games Schedule > March" hyperlink (but will be duplicated here). We'll have scenarios, demo games, and painting stations open for players of all skill levels.

Prizes this year will include gift certificates to 21st Century Comics as well as professionally painted miniatures!

What will it cost you for all this fun? Simple. Absolutely nothing. Zip, nada, nothing!! All the games are free! :) Just show up and game! It's going to be a relaxed weekend of gaming with Commandos playing in the games as well. So save your money for gas and food and if you'd like to buy something at 21st Century to say thanks to Andy for hosting us, I'm sure he'd appreciate it. But if money is tight, don't worry about it, we're just happy to have you there. :)

And without further ado, here's the line-up:

-=============-

Friday, 3/14 @ 6:00 p.m. - 12:00 a.m.
Mars Attacks!!
Lindon's Battalion, The Dismal D's, and Beta Regiment have been destroyed. Now it's up to the madmen of Zeta Battalion to face down ROM in a winner take all scenario! There is no retreat for Zeta and nowhere to run to. All that stands between the rabid Wolves and the Master is a lone level II of Blake's soldiers.

-=============-

Saturday, 3/15 @ 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Scenario #1: Solaris Smackdown
The Blakists have been driven from Solaris VII, so what better way to celebrate than an exhibition match between MechWarriors from the stables that survived the Jihad! Game played with every Solaris VII 'Mech mini released so far...

Scenario #2: SLDF versus Rim Worlds Army
Forces are collapsing all round the Terran Hegemony. With no rescue in sight, sometimes all you can do is make the enemy pay dearly for every inch of ground they take.

Scenario #3: Jade Falcon vs. WoB
After the nuking of Tamar and the bombing of Arc Royal, the Jade Falcons have joined the fight against the Blakists.

-=============-

Saturday, 3/15 @ 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Scenario #1: Operation Sovereign Justice
It's the opening stages of the Jihad and Duke George Hasek has just launched a pre-emptive strike on the Capellan Confederation.

Scenario #2: Sword & Dragon Grinder
It's McKinnon's Raiders in the War of 3039 and it's MechGrinder style! Got headcapped? No problem, reinforcements are arriving all the time!

Scenario #3: Tanks a lot!
The BattleMech hasn't been invented yet, so it's a Terran Hegemony skirmish with tanks, infantry and aerofighters.

-=============-

Saturday, 3/15 @ 8:00 p.m. - 12:00 a.m. - CBT Weekend of Gaming
THUNDERDOME!!!!!

Two men enter, hopefully Goober walks out. IF NOT HE LOSES HIS MINIATURE!!

Here are the stakes, Goober versus the world. Kinda like in "Searching for Bobby Fisher." He will play games at the same time against anyone who wants, and if they can beat him, they get the mini that he used. There is no risk to players, he won't make you give up anything.

So here are the rules:

1. Single mapsheet of a 3rd parties choice for Thunderdome, that way no favoritism to anyone.

2. Each competitor will use 3000 points to pick his 'Mech, that includes pilot/gunnery using new bv rules.

3. 'Mech must be a legal tournement mech, no artillery, or mines, only munitions available in TotalWarfare/TechManual, and 'Mech must be a published/recognized mech from a TRO or other sourcebook.

4. Total Warfare rules, with the use of floating crits as the only additional rule.

5. To insure pace of games, all movement will be on a one minute timer for Goober, his opponents will have plenty of time to do there thing. This will make up for sloppy tactics and horrible 'Mech choices. ;)

6. All 'Mech minis must be what-you-see-is-what-you-get.

7. If they can beat him, they get my mini, no risk to them, if he wins they become another notch on the kill board for Lord GOOBER.

So with that, COME AND GET IT, GOOBER IS READY TO SERVE all his minis will be painted and hexbased, no crap!!

Also, the 3000 points is for just one mech and its pilot, no bonus for being under so use it or lose it!

-=============-

Sunday, 3/16 @ 12:00 p.m. 5:00 p.m. - CBT Weekend of Gaming
Isle of the Blessed
What would happen if Jackson Davion had been captured by Avitue instead of killed? Time to find out...

-=============-

Saturday: Demo Games
Got a friend who'd like to learn how to play Battletech? Bring 'em along and we'll teach them. Newbies will get a demo packet including a limited edition Stinger miniature and CBT poster while supplies last.

Saturday: MechGrinder
So, you like Battletech but aren't ready to rumble with the experienced players yet? Not a problem soldier, have we got a game for you! It's assault 'Mech goodness with the demo game rules. And best of all, if you get shot out of your 'Mech, just grab another one and jump right back into the action!

Saturday: Painting Demos
Looking for the basics on painting your miniatures or are you looking for a specific technique? Want to learn how to paint camo patterns? Or how about jewelling cockpits and laser barrels? Well bring your miniatures and hang out with our painters for a while cause painting expertise and supplies will be provided.

Sunday: Crimson Skies Demo Games
Ever wanted to learn how to play Crimson Skies? If you like dogfighting action in a shattered, pre-WWII United States, then this is the game for you!

Sunday: ShadowRun Demo Games
Ever wanted to learn how to play ShadowRun? It's like D&D meets the Matrix. No, seriously, it is. But it's a fun game and we're going to teach you how to play it. :)

2. "Battletech Weekend of Gaming"

You've heard whispers and rumors of "Big-Ass-Day-Of-Battletech" for
months now. Well, now we're ready to make the announcement:

Keep the weekend of March 14-16, 2008 open! At 21st Century Comics and
Games in East Lansing, Michigan, we will be holding a "Weekend of
Gaming" event.

If you've been to any of the Foundation Cons, you'll know what to
expect from this weekend. With Foundation now defunct, we're picking up
where they left off and partnering with 21st Century. While this is a
Battletech-only event, we will have opportunities to showcase some
older FASA games as well as some newer CGL ones.

The entire weekend will consist of Battletech, Aerotech, and
BattleForce games and tournaments, painting demos, demo games, prizes,
and some surprises (to be announced later). :)

Just to whet your appetite though, on Sunday, in addition to the normal
Battletech game, we'll be on hand to run some Crimson Skies and VOR the
Maelstrom demos for anyone who'd like to learn how to play these
vintage FASA games (that are still available on the net and on Iron
Wind Metal's website).

In the upcoming months, we'll be posting the full event schedule on
PlayBattletech.org as well as detailing the scenarios, parking
arrangements, directions, and everything you'll need to know for this
weekend of gaming.

Hope to see you there,

Charles "IronSphinx" Wilson
CGL Commando #66
